Rotted meats, fish guts, grease, dead beavers, all free for the asking. A proven call lure attractant that has stood the test of time! BUT FREE! REALLY! Not a chance! The real price is hidden in the labor to acquire, package, store, and finally transport this heavy stuff to the bait site. And, how environmentally safe is all that grease? Multiple baits, multiple effort, multiple problems!
Commercial sprays – Very Effective! Proven! They work! Great for opening any bait and for use during re-baits.
BUT all these have a downside which becomes very apparent over time. They ALL need to be reapplied in a timely fashion to remain effective. What happens after rain storms, varmints, prolonged heat spells, or extended turnaround times? How many bears are you losing without a call lure when they wander through? If that wandering bear finds another food source or bait site, he’s gone! You’ve lost him.
I suffered with all the above! So 20 years ago I decided to make a programmable BEAR CALL unit. Being an automotive designer I devised 3 or 4 different models with reservoirs that used timers, batteries, and pumps to get about 10 days (4xs per day) of 100% potent scent into the air. They worked great but keeping the reservoirs full with scent was still ringing up the bill and the cost of building the units was not cheap! Another factor I never truly grasped was the scenting abilities of bears. Truly amazing how little scent it takes to bring in bears from great distances.
I was at a house party using the washroom when I heard a noise and was overwhelmed with some potpourri type (gag) scent that women like. I saw the automatic spray dispenser and my mind went spinning. It was a friend’s house so he didn’t mind that I took the unit home with me. I called my hunting partner and told him I found the Holy Grail! We just needed the proper scent! Three or four years later and we had it! The next 4 years were head-on testing in the bear woods. We gambled each season with only our BEAR CALL alone at all our sites! We needed to prove it could work alone. Our baits opened quickly and bear numbers went up while we were hundreds of miles away! Our current methods today is to make a big honey burn and apply some commercial spray to get the bait rocking ASAP. We know BEAR CALL has us covered until we return.
BEAR CALL was born! Simple, cheap, light, reliable and effective!
The dispensers are available everywhere – Canadian Tire - Wal-Mart – Home Hardware – grocers etc. They’re very durable and ours are going on their 8th season. We have even left some out mistakenly and found them next spring. New batteries, fresh BEAR CALL and they work! WOW!
Recommended use is two units per bait site, both set to 15 min delay. At this setting you’ll get 30 days of 100%, potent, bear attracting power to make sure you get every passing bear on your sites. Two units per site guarantees you’ll never fear losing your attraction if one unit fails or a bear gets one down.
This system of scent application creates a consistent “NORMAL” at the bait site. It reassures the returning bear that it’s exactly as it’s always been, and exactly how he left it. Big bears can detect even the slightest change whether it’s a new scent or increased intensity and when this norm is broke they become more cautious and suspicious and hang up, double checking. This is when a hunt goes bad and has been the undoing of many a bear hunt!
The system gets better! - a can of BEAR CALL in the tree with the hunter, manually spraying, makes the best cover scent we’ve ever used. It covers you right at the source and maintains that “NORMAL” that big bears rely on. Tilt the odds in your favor with BEAR CALL!
So if you’re ready to elevate your bear hunting to the next level and give yourself the best chance at bigger bears then give BEAR CALL the chance to do it - with you! If you use it, they will come!
IMPORTANT USER INFO
Make sure you run 2 dispenser units per bait site. Example - If you have 3 bait sites for 2 hunters. Then you need 6 dispensers and cans for the setup and a can each to use when you hunt in the tree with you. So 8 cans – 6 dispensers. This SYSTEM IS NOT JUST TO ATTRACT but also to calm and maintain a NORMAL at the bait site and a GREAT cover scent when you hunt.
Thanks for your interest. Good luck and send us some pics when you get your bear!
Are conventional baiting methods achieving your goals? Are you using the proven, but antiquated, monkey see, monkey do, approach? It’s works but does it really work? Depends on your goals. Are you happy with the sporadic results and low big bear harvest percentages? Are you willing to take a new path? The path least travelled and give yourself a chance at harvesting the biggest bear of your life. They exist out there in good numbers and make appearances on almost every hunter’s cameras. But something always happens and hunters settle for lesser bears. How many blogs do you need to read with “great eater bear”, “small and tasty”, “easier to pack out”, “exactly what I wanted”, or “this is my umpteenth year, my umpteenth bear, and my biggest to date! 225 lbs.!” Really? This doesn’t need to be you if you have loftier goals!
The Bear Vendor system has been developed after 30+ years of bear hunting. Every year we tried new concepts and the failures were piling up but the learning curve was getting less steep! The failures kept pushing us to try to find a better way to accomplish many of the goals and wish list items that most bear hunters have been trying to find. Some of these goals are bait management, elimination of varmints, sows, cubs and yearlings. The ultimate goal was to create a system to attract and hold “target” bears which are usually larger males. Add in a (BLI) “bait level indicator” to monitor the system remotely. This extends your return visits to rebait and lessened human intrusions. Hunting smarter is never a bad thing! Save bait, save gas, save time, save effort, and maximise your results!
The first thing we began to realize is that big male bears have different needs and desires then the rest of the bear population. If your bear baiting system allows all bears access to the bait then you’re not specifically targeting big bears. That approach is often detrimental to big bear success. Bears are NOT herd animals! They spend their entire lives solo except for when they’re cubs with mama or during the brief breeding season. Male bear are solitary creatures. They get even more solitary as each year passes. They do not need humans or bait sites to survive. They know where to find food. When they show up at a bait site at 400lbs plus, it’s not because someone was feeding them! They do not need us!
Bait sites are NOT a natural occurrence in the wilderness. Making a bait site and having multiple bears is what most hunters hope to accomplish with the antiquated theory that a big mature male will eventually find it and claim it as his own. I have found out through years of failures that this does not seem to be the case. Sows with cubs actually control a bait site. Sows will run off any and all threats to their cubs and their new found food source. Multiple visits from yearlings and varmints only increase the traffic flow. This confusion and activity will often make a big bear seek greener pastures, looking for peace and quiet.
So how do we satisfy the needs of a big bear and provide him with his own private feeding site? An Oasis! A spot that is HIS MAN CAVE. Free from all the problems associated at other bait sites. Bear Vendor accomplishes this!
We have designed, through trial and error, a simple, elevated, gravity fed system that can only be accessed by bears of “target” size or larger. You set the “target” height for the size of bears in your area. Monitoring your site with a game camera on video mode will quickly educate you to make adjustments up or down to accomplish your goals. We have recommendations for a minimal and maximum range. The beauty of the Bear Vendor system is, unless you get a bear of target size on it, then you don’t sacrifice any bait or future effort. If there are not any bears in your area of target size, and you have no intention of shooting smaller bears, then that bait site really hasn’t cost you anything. You can retrieve that unused bait and move it to refill or top up a site being hit or save it till next season. Or leave it there till the end of the hunt ready for a big bear encounter that may find it later.
BLI (bait level indicator) is something we added in to the system. Used in conjunction with a cell linked camera. This allows you to know precisely, in real time, your bear bait levels. You know when to rebait and exactly how much to bring in. No guessing! No wasted motion or effort!
The inside of the Bear Vendor has baffling and internals to slow down the flow of bait and to prevent your target bear from scooping and empting the contents too fast. What they pull out! - They eat! Nothing is left on the ground to attract birds, varmints, or lesser bears which trip your cameras unnecessarily.
Using Bear Vendor with BLI allows you to initially start bait sites with less bait and give you the opportunity to add in more bait sites to extend your baiting territory and get into a big bears range. Once a big bear hits your site you can quickly react and load up that barrel to its maximum capacity.
For example... You normally bait 3 sites because that’s all you can carry or afford. You load up your barrels full - right from the start - as is the norm. Now you hope for action! But careful what you hope for! Sows, cubs, yearlings, coons, squirrels, foxes, martens, wolves, coyotes, ravens, vultures, etc. etc. etc.
With Bear Vendor you can open 6 sites, ½ full, same amount of bait, same amount of effort, cover more area, then react quickly to those spots that have target bears on them. You can leave un-hit sites waiting till they get hit, or transfer that bait to the productive spots. You only feed one target animal. Bait lasts a long time! If another target big bear finds it. Ideal situation! It’s never a problem feeding a big bear! Two big bears on one spot – better yet! Who’s your daddy now!
Bear Vendor needs a dry bait. The bait needs to have flow ability, like sand in an hourglass. You no longer need any of the heavy slops associated with conventional baiting methods. No more grease, no sloppy icing, no pie fillings, no plastic pails, etc. etc. Popcorn, grain, dog foods, cereals, dry granola, dried donuts – perfect! These types of foods do not rot or become moldy and can last a long, long, time! Welcome to the Bear Vendor system.
